University of the Third Age (U3A) offers learning opportunities to promote life-long learning and exchange of knowledge. These artworks are the result of engagement and learning by two groups of like-minded people who come together once a week to make art, socialise and learn from each other. Many of the group are new to art-making. They work in acrylic paint on canvas, pastels, charcoal, pencils, water mixable oils, recycled papers and found objects.

Inspiration for beginners come from other artists, where the focus is on technical skills. Others develop images based on personal themes such as family, the local wildlife and varied landscapes found around the local area and much further afield. And there are those who take on a more Post-modern theme such as having fun with irony through collaged images and functional art.
