'Woodland Stories' explores the fairytale lives of woodland creatures as imagined in their day-to-day lives. This exhibition is inspired by children's books illustrations and narratives. It is a humorous, lighthearted display of whimsical storytelling filled with wonder and joy.
Many nations and cultures have documented pregnancy and birth through a variety of artforms. Historically, the process has been depicted as a wrought journey, ending in a dangerous battle. Mothers are often shown as champions in defeating death itself, entering alone and departing victorious, having created a new life.
Through all stages, the mother is guided and supported by others toward the final, feared and revered process of birth. It is the artist's intent to allow others to experience this otherwise personal, vulnerable journey alongside her as she herself prepares for the birth of her first child. It is an exhibition about strength, bravery, homage to the sacrifices and support of others.
