Peggy has had a lifetime interest in art but raising a family and a demanding career meant her art practice was put on hold.  Instead, she turned her hand to photography.

After retiring, when looking through the camera lens, she felt the need to paint and draw what she saw.

Having lived in rural areas for most of her life and travelling to remote areas of Australia, Peggy has developed a kinship with the Australian landscape and its native flora and fauna. This kinship is the basis of her art. The beauty of the Australian landscapes and its wildlife and wildflowers provides the artist with unlimited subject matter.

Over time she has explored various mediums and techniques to recreate the mood and beauty of her subjects.

Most recently Peggy has been enjoying working with ink pens to create floral still life drawings.

The artist lives and works in Laurieton.

    presents 'Shapes & Colours'

My introduction to painting began around 20 years ago, my favourite medium is watercolour and I generally work as a realistic and representational artist.   This exhibition I have chosen to work in abstract.  This body of work is an abstract mix of Shapes, Forms and Colours intended to deliver to the heart a warm feeling.

We are very proud to present two very talented artists with a plethora of styles and experience to share with us.

Fred Bullen has won awards for his works in local area exhibitions and many are currently displayed in galleries in Forster, Taree and Port Macquarie.

His most recent works have been described as having been executed “by an artist who has developed his own style based on an intuitive execution. The suburban landscape is rendered with an almost photographic naturalism; but the use of bright colours, ambiguous and distorted perspectives, and strange juxtapositions suggest an imagined or dreamed reality”.

His inspiration comes from the local area and the urban landscape which are then reproduced in traditional or one of many styles such as ‘abstract realism’.

    Tracey Sales

Tracey’s work is inspired by the many and varied places she has lived from Port Macquarie, Sydney to Smiths Lake and also extensive travel through Asia and Europe.

She loves to play with textures, light, movement and patterns and uses a variety of mediums, currently creating both mixed media, acrylic and oil paintings.

The playful, fluid, dreamlike quality of Tracey’s art is an expression of her personality and nods to artworks created by family members, whilst the vibrant colours, patterns and texture is worked into nature pieces that portray the personality of her wildlife characters.

    T & K colourgirls

Tracey Bowden and Kerrie Swan are two contemporary artists based in Scotts Head, who met through their love of art, colour and laughter and who exhibit under the banner of t&kcolourgirls.

Joining them this year is the talented young artist Lyla Eklund, and Jerome Rivory, with his conceptual sculptures using natural found objects.

Nature is awe-inspiring, diverse, beautiful and wild. How we connect to nature is explored by each artist through their different perceptions, connection, reflection and what each actually sees, feels, hears and touches using all their senses.

LIFE and LIGHT expands on these themes using various mediums to express the magic and diversity of nature.

Colleen’s art practice started a decade and a half ago when her mother (a fine artist) gave her a few cursory pointers.  Apart from this, she is self taught and has spent most of her years painting both abstract and very detailed representational works.  More recently she has embarked on a new journey, drawing and illustrating using pencil and sometimes ink and embracing two very different styles. Exquisitely detailed works of the rain forest she so loves, and making people giggle and smile with her gorgeous pelican illustrations.

Exploration of Colour, line and Pattern

My work is part of an ongoing exploration of the use of colour, line and pattern in an abstract style.  Most of my pieces tend to evoke the landscape in unusual ways and I am always hoping to create a feeling of harmony and a sense of balance and rest.

I use layers of soft colours to build up atmospheric backgrounds and fine and heavy line work to complete the composition.  Having been a decorator I’m looking to create pieces that add interest, rhythm and feeling whilst not overwhelming a space.
